EUREKA NETWORK PROJECTS

So-called EUREKA Network Projects are, in reality, market-oriented transnational collaborative RDI projects. The projects submitted in this framework come from partners following a purely "bottom-up" logic. In the case of a positive evaluation, the projects do not receive any funding from EUREKA but a label. They are financed by national funding agencies (Innoviris for Brussels) according to their own specific funding rules.

LIFE

LIFE is a funding instrument from DG Environment that co-funds the test and demonstration of innovative approaches, services, technologies. the involvement of public actors is traditionally more important in LIFE but especially since the 2016 call there is a stronger emphasis under LIFE for close-to-market projects from SMEs.

However, if limited research aimed to improve and enhance the knowledge data underpinning the project may be carried out within a LIFE project, the main difference with Horizon 2020 is that research must be strictly limited and intrinsically related to the project's objectives. Nevertheless, proposals that foresee to take up the results of environmental and climate-related research and  innovation  projects  financed  by  Horizon  2020  or  by  preceding  Framework Programmes will received a higher scoring, if the research results relevant for the uptake are adequately presented and the manner in which they will be used for the implementation of the LIFE project is convincingly demonstrated. Look at this document summarizing all differences.

LIFE has annual calls for proposal generally open in the Spring with deadlines in September. For more information you can find here the contact information of the Belgian contact points for the different strand.
