I. Horizon 2020
Horizon 2020 is the 2014-2020 EU funding programme for Research and Innovation. It covers the whole research and innovation value chain, from big international collaborative research projects to smaller projects with a clear view on the market. Thematic work programmes set the priority topics for 2 years and every year calls for proposals are open for these pre-defined research and innovation topics. For topics falling under the SME instrument or the Fast Track to Innovation, calls for proposals are continously open with 3 or 4 cut-off dates per year.
Under Horizon 2020, Security stakeholders are addressed mostly in the work Programmes of the following Societal Challenges:
- Societal Challenge 7 " Secure societies – Protecting freedom and security of Europe and its citizens" (digital security, cybersecurity, disaster-resilience, fight against crime and terrorism, border-control, maritime security).
Calls for proposals from other societal challenges might be of interest for the security sector, in particular:
- Societal Challenge 2 “Food and Bioeconomy” offers opportunities for solutions and projects in the sustainable food security area, as well as CBRN sector for protection against nuclear and radiological toxins.
- Societal Challenge 6 “Inclusive, Innovative and Reflective societies” offers opportunities for social sciences and humanities projects in relation to the security sector.
For calls for proposals from other societal challenges that might be of interest for the Security sector, please check the matrix here
For other specific instruments please see here.
The security sector will also find funding opportunities in the pillar "Leadership in enabling and industrial technologies" (LEIT) and in particular in the work programmes related to the following sectors:
