Horizon 2020 is the 2014-2020 EU funding programme for Research and Innovation. It covers the whole research and innovation value chain, from large-scale international collaborative research projects to smaller projects with an objective of market and societal impact.
Horizon 2020 is implemented through biannual work programmes, setting all the calls for proposals and the topics for funding. Every year calls for proposals are open for these pre-defined research and innovation topics.

Ambient Assisted Living
The Active and Assistive Living (AAL) programme funds projects in public-private partnership in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) for active and healthy ageing since 2008. The challenge for the AAL 2016 Call for proposals of the AAL Programme will be: “Living well with dementia. The contribution of ICT to integrated solutions for enabling the wellbeing of people living with dementia and their communities”.
The European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) aims to accelerate the development of new or improved drugs, vaccines, microbicides and diagnostics against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria as well as other poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on phase II and III clinical trials.
The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing will pursue a triple win for Europe:
1. Enabling EU citizens to lead healthy, active and independent lives while ageing.
2. Improving the sustainability and efficiency of social and health care systems.
3. Boosting and improving the competitiveness of the markets for innovative products and services, responding to the ageing challenge at both EU and global level, thus creating new opportunities for businesses.

The Growth for Health Programme is the health programme of DG Sanco which aims at improving EU citizens' health, reduce health inequalities, increae the sustainability of health systems, encouraging innovation in health, protecting citizens from serious crossborder health treats.
